He Is My Strength When I have No Strength
Lesson Focus:
We live in a culture that celebrates strength, independence, and self-sufficiency. We’re
told to “push through,” “do it ourselves,” and never show weakness. But God’s Kingdom
works differently. In God’s eyes, weakness is not a flaw to be hidden—it is a doorway for
His strength to enter.
Paul reminds us that God’s grace is not just comfort for the weary but power for the
weak. When we reach the end of our own abilities, we step into the beginning of His
supernatural strength. God doesn’t ask us to perform perfectly or rely on our own
willpower; He calls us to lean into His presence and allow His power to work through us.
This lesson teaches us that:
Our limitations point us back to God.
Weakness makes space for humility, and humility makes space for grace.
God’s power doesn’t simply replace our weakness—it shines through it, so He
alone gets the glory.
When we truly embrace this truth, we stop fearing our weaknesses and start seeing
them as opportunities for God’s strength to be revealed.
Scripture Readings and Reflections
2 Corinthians 12:8–10
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that
Christ’s power may rest on me… For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Reflection:
Paul’s testimony reminds us that weakness does not disqualify us—it positions us. The
“thorn” in Paul’s flesh was a reminder that his strength was not his own. Instead of
resenting his hardship, Paul embraced it as the very place where God’s strength could
shine through. Our weaknesses, when surrendered, become altars for God’s glory.
Hebrews 4:15–16
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses…
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive
mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Reflection:
Christ doesn’t just observe our weaknesses—He enters into them with us. Because He
walked in human flesh, He knows our struggles intimately. This means we never have to
fear bringing our brokenness before Him. Instead, we can confidently approach His
throne and expect His help right in the middle of our weakness.
James 4:6
“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”
Reflection:
Pride tells us to keep pushing, pretending, and striving in our own strength. Humility
admits: “I can’t, but God can.” Weakness creates space for humility, and humility
creates space for grace. When we surrender our need to “do it all,” we make room for
God’s power to take over.
1 Corinthians 15:10
“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On
the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.”
Reflection:
Paul makes it clear that his accomplishments were not fueled by his own strength.
Everything he achieved for the Kingdom was made possible by grace. When we face
situations that exceed our natural ability, grace steps in to accomplish what we cannot.
Psalm 73:26
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion
forever.”
Reflection:
Even when our bodies and emotions betray us, God remains steadfast. Our weakness
is a reminder that we are finite, but He is infinite. Strength is not found in pushing past
exhaustion, but in resting in the God who never fails.
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
Reflection:
This verse is not about self-empowerment—it is about Christ-empowerment. Our “all
things” refers to every trial, every burden, and every weakness we face. With Christ, our
insufficiency becomes enough, because His strength fills the gap.
Key Takeaway Points
Weakness is not failure; it is an invitation for God’s power to rest on us.
God’s grace meets us at the end of ourselves, where our strength runs out.
Humility opens the door for grace; pride closes it.
Christ understands our weaknesses and offers us mercy and help.
True strength is not found in self-reliance but in dependence on God.
Reflection Challenge:
This week, identify one area where you feel especially weak or inadequate. Write it
down, and instead of asking God to remove it immediately, ask Him to show you how
His strength can be revealed through it. Each day, thank Him for being your strength in
that weakness.
