Embracing Healing and Walking in Newness of Life
Now that we understand that moving on from our past is essential, there are some key principles to remember as we embrace healing and restoration.
First, our new life began when we accepted Jesus Christ into our hearts. But stepping from the old into the new is a process. In the beginning, we may not see or feel “new.”
Living in the fullness of our new identity requires dedication to a lifestyle of faith. Why faith? Because what we see in our circumstances often contradicts what God has promised in His Word.
As Scripture reminds us: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.(Hebrews 11:1)
We often hope for healing in our bodies, restored relationships, a healed heart, peace, or financial breakthrough. These may seem out of reach, but through God’s Word and by walking in consistent faith, they become attainable.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
One caution: Picking and choosing how we believe God will or won’t bless us can hinder our faith walk. We are called to love and trust God with our whole heart, mind, and soul. (Matthew 22:37)
You might ask: “Why doesn’t this newness stick? Why does it feel like it comes in small doses, here and there?”
Perhaps because we are trying to pour new wine into old wineskins. (Ephesians 4:22-24)
Think of moving into a new home—bringing old items from a painful past can weigh you down, clutter your space, and hinder your experience. Similarly, holding onto old mindsets will keep us stuck.
Our minds play a huge role in our ability to move forward.
Put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; be made new in the
attitude of your minds; put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and
holiness." (Ephesians 4:22-24)
Renewing your mind daily is critical. It prevents you from sliding back into dark thoughts, painful memories, and low self-esteem.
Remember: The same power that raised Christ from the dead can raise you up from your past!
Just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new
life." (Romans 6:4)
If we don’t actively press forward, we risk becoming slaves to negative circumstances.
For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done
away with, that we should no longer be slaves to (Romans 6:6)
Our lives should be marked by peace and freedom—not determined by circumstances, but
grounded in relationship with God and trust in Him.
Trust and believe God for your transformation.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.(Psalm 51:10)
As the word of God states: If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!(Matthew 7:11)
God desires to bless us—we simply must ask and pursue Him.
But we must also be doers of the Word, not merely hearers. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks
like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it... will be blessed in what they do(James 1:23-25)
Each day requires a choice—to keep pressing forward. Yes, there will be challenging days. When you fall, get back up. Acknowledge God in every season—good and bad. Maintain an unwavering mindset and attitude in all circumstances. In doing so, you will keep moving forward—toward peace, restoration, and healing.
