Health and Wellness: Spiritual Growth and Wholeness

Lesson Focus

Health and wellness are gifts from God—gifts that require intentional stewardship. Scripture reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and our spiritual, emotional, and physical health are deeply connected. When we care for our bodies and minds, we honor God and position ourselves to serve Him and others with strength, clarity, and joy.

This lesson encourages us to seek wholeness through God’s wisdom, embrace rest, nourish ourselves with what He provides, and allow Him to renew us daily.

Key Points

1. Our Bodies Are God’s Temple

Scripture: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… therefore honor God with your bodies.”1 Corinthians 6:19–20

God cares deeply about our physical well-being. Because His Spirit dwells within us, we are called to treat our bodies with respect and intentional care—through nutrition, rest, movement, and healthy boundaries. Caring for the physical is not vanity; it is worship.

2. God’s Word Brings Healing and Strength

Scripture: “He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.”Psalm 107:20

God’s healing is not limited to the physical. His Word brings restoration to the mind, emotions, and soul. Spending time in Scripture strengthens our inner person and renews our hope, which in turn impacts our overall health.

3. Rest Is a Kingdom Principle

Scripture: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28

Rest is not laziness; it is obedience. God built renewal into the rhythm of creation. Many of us run until our bodies break down, yet Jesus invites us into rest—spiritually, emotionally, and physically. True rest restores clarity, peace, and strength.

4. Wise Stewardship Produces Wellness

Scripture: “The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.”Proverbs 21:20 (NIV)

Stewardship includes making wise choices—what we eat, how we manage stress, and the habits we cultivate. God empowers us to develop discipline that supports long-term wellness.

5. God Renews Us from the Inside Out

Scripture: “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”2 Corinthians 4:16

Even as our bodies age, God continually renews our spirits. Wellness isn’t just physical—it is holistic. God desires balance, joy, strength, and peace in every part of our lives.

Reflections

  1. Are there areas of your physical or emotional wellness that God has been prompting you to pay attention to?

  2. What is one small change you can make this week to honor God with your body?

  3. How can you incorporate more spiritual rest into your daily rhythm?

  4. In what ways has stress, busyness, or neglect affected your health—and how can you invite God into those spaces?

  5. Do you believe you are worthy of wellness, healing, and rest? If not, what truth does God want you to embrace today?

Closing Thoughts

Health and wellness are not about perfection—they are about alignment. When we align our minds, bodies, and spirits with God’s wisdom, we draw closer to His purpose for our lives. God wants us whole, strong, restored, and available for His work.

May this week be one of intentional care, renewed strength, and divine healing. May you feel God’s presence not only in your spirit but in your body, habits, emotions, and daily rhythms.

Wellness is worship.
Wholeness is God’s desire.
And healing is your portion.
