How to Experience the Love of God

Love is a word people use to convey deep admiration, affection, or care for someone. When spoken, it signifies an emotion that goes beyond ordinary liking—it reflects a profound connection or feeling that sets someone apart in our hearts.

Often, human love comes with strings attached. People often love others because they meet a need, fill an emotional gap, or provide something they lack. Love can be tied to dependency, the fulfillment of expectations, or material offerings. In many relationships, love is mistakenly measured by physical attraction or what someone can give, rather than who they truly are.  This is also one of the reasons why you will hear people say they “fell out of love” and this happens because the love they had was conditional.

What many people don’t realize is that love rooted in conditions isn’t true love—and it certainly isn’t God’s love. While someone’s expression of love may seem sincere, real love carries divine power. That power comes from God. Without reflecting His unconditional love, human love often lacks depth, and often, it comes with expectations attached.  For instance, in a marriage, if one or both partners are unwilling to build the relationship on love grounded in God's principles, the marriage is at risk of breaking down.

Expectations Of Others to Avoid Let Downs
So, what does all this mean for us? First, while it’s nice to receive words of admiration and affection, we must consider the source. Even when someone seems sincere, we must remember—they’re human. And with that comes imperfection. No matter how deeply someone claims to love us, we should manage our expectations, knowing they are still capable of letting us down. The only love that never fails, never wavers, and never disappoints is the love of God.

We Should Learn How to Operate Based On Gods True Meaning of What Love Is

1 Corinthians 13: 4-9

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love should always be unconditional because if not it is not really love.  Also, if love is conditional then its not being demonstrated the way god intended.

John 13: 34-35

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

The way that someone operates when it comes to love can be an indicator of where an individual is regarding His relationship with the Lord.

What does God’s love toward us look like for us?

Romans 5:7–8

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5 demonstrates the depth of God’s love for us.
Therefore, when we feel unloved, unwanted, or even unappreciated we can remember that God loves us beyond measure. We need to be reminded of God’s great love for us that goes beyond mans comprehension.

Isaiah 54:10

For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

There are times in life when we need to be reminded of God’s great love for us so that our spirits are restored and burdens are lifted from our hearts. This scripture speaks to that fact that come what may, God’s love for us will always remain. God’s compassion means that He is sympathetic and concerned about our sufferings or misfortunes.

John 15:9–13

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

The word of God consist of God’s love for us. His commandments and all that He presses us to do places us to be in a position where His love can be demonstrated. True love protects, provides, comforts, takes hits, covers, offers opportunities for restoration and more. When we operate according to Gods word, when we choose to do what He says in spite of our circumstances, when we do what He leads us to do instead of allowing ourselves to be guided by our feelings we will experience the love of God.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

The issue is not that God does not want to come to our aid. We have to know what God’s promises and believe it in order to receive it. Just read and don’t worry about understanding it. God will reveal!
